What happens in a mum and baby class?

45 minutes of gentle stretching, movement and play, for you and your little one. You work on your own flexibility and strength (back, hips, shoulders, the parts that carry a baby all day), and your child plays, crawls, rolls and joins the movements when they want. No level needed, no equipment: mats are provided, with balls, soft cubes and sensory mats for the babies. Bring a blanket for yours.

Age of the child: from the moment you feel ready to move after birth up to about 3 years. If you also have an older child, the ballroom class for 4 to 7 year olds follows immediately at 16:25, so you can stay for both. This is what makes this class different from a postnatal fitness class: it is built on dance movement and play rather than circuits, and it fits an afternoon with siblings.

Adult stretching and flexibility classes, after Ladies Latin

A 60-minute class for adults who want to regain or build flexibility: splits progression, back and shoulder mobility, hip opening, with the method dancers use. All levels, from "I can't touch my toes" to dancers preparing a competition. It follows the Ladies Latin class the same evening, so you can dance, then stretch. Planned to start around mid-October with Ladies Latin; town and price to be announced: join the waiting list to be told first.

Is postnatal stretching good for a new mum?

Gentle, guided stretching helps most mothers recover mobility in the back and hips and reduces the stiffness that comes with carrying and feeding. If you had a caesarean or any complication, ask your GP or physiotherapist before starting, and tell Sofia at the first class. Sofia is a certified Children's Fitness Instructor and a trained dancer, not a physiotherapist: the class is about movement and wellbeing, not treatment.
